What Are Cannabinoids?

Cannabinoids are a class of chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa). They interact with the endocannabinoid system in both humans and many animals, playing a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes. The most well-known cannabinoid is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

There are over 100 different cannabinoids identified in cannabis, each with its own properties and potential effects

What Is The Endocannabinoid System?

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex cell-signaling system found in the bodies of humans and many animals. It plays a crucial role in regulating various physiological processes and maintaining homeostasis, which is the body's ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external fluctuations.

The ECS gets its name from cannabinoids, which are compounds found in both the cannabis plant (phytocannabinoids) and the human body (endocannabinoids).

What Is The Entourage Effect?

The entourage effect is a concept in the field of cannabis and cannabinoid research that suggests that the various compounds found in the cannabis plant, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and other phytochemicals, work together synergistically to produce a more significant and beneficial effect when used together than when isolated and used individually.

In essence, it proposes that the whole plant extract, containing a range of compounds, may have greater therapeutic potential than isolated cannabinoids like THC or CBD alone.

Is CBD Legal?

The legality of CBD (cannabidiol) varies by country and region and can be influenced by a variety of factors, including the source of the CBD (hemp or marijuana), the THC content of the product, and local regulations. Here's a general overview:

  1. United States: In the United States, the legality of CBD is complex and can vary at both the federal and state levels. Under federal law, CBD derived from hemp with a THC content of 0.3% or less is legal thanks to the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. However, individual states may have their own regulations, and some have more restrictive rules.
  2. Canada: In Canada, both CBD derived from hemp and CBD derived from marijuana are legal. Canada legalized recreational cannabis in 2018, making all cannabis-derived products legal for adult use.
  3. European Union: In the European Union (EU), the legality of CBD varies from country to country. Generally, CBD products derived from hemp with a THC content of 0.2% or less are legal in most EU countries, but regulations can vary. Some countries may have stricter rules or require special permits.
  4. Other Countries: CBD's legal status varies widely around the world. Some countries have legalized it for medical or recreational use, while others have strict prohibitions. It's essential to research the specific laws and regulations in your country or region.
  5. Over-the-Counter CBD Products: In some places, CBD products with low THC content are available over the counter in health stores, pharmacies, or online. These products are often marketed as dietary supplements, skincare items, or wellness products.

Will CBD Make Me Fail A Drug Test?

It is possible to fail a drug test if you ingest full-spectrum or broad-spectrum CBD. CBD isolate is the only option available with no traces of THC. We do not recommend using any ingestible full-spectrum or broad-spectrum hemp product if there is a possibility you will be tested.

Clinical trials have shown that taking CBD isolate orally doesn't lead to detectable THC in the bloodstream. There's no indication that CBD alone behaves like THC after being absorbed.

There are also no indications that THC can be absorbed through the skin, so topicals are typically considered safe to use.

Can You Overdose On CBD?

CBD is generally safe, non-toxic, and has no known lethal dose. In a comprehensive review published in 2017, the World Health Organization (WHO) found that daily doses of up to 1500 mg of CBD are well tolerated by humans. According to the National Cancer Institute, cannabinoid receptors are absent in the brainstem, meaning cannabinoid compounds do not affect respiration. The brainstem controls vital functions like breathing, which is why medications such as opioids that interact with brainstem receptors can be lethal.

Questions About CBD & Hemp

What Is Cannabidiol (CBD)?

Cannabidiol, commonly known as CBD, is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant (Cannabis sativa). It is one of over a hundred different cannabinoids present in cannabis. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it does not produce the "high" or euphoric effects associated with another well-known cannabinoid, delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

CBD has gained significant attention for its potential therapeutic benefits, and it is used in various forms, including oils, tinctures, capsules, creams, and more.

What Is Hemp Extract?

Hemp extract refers to a concentrated substance derived from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). It contains a wide range of naturally occurring compounds, including cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals found in hemp.

The most well-known cannabinoid in hemp extract is cannabidiol (CBD), but it also typically contains trace amounts of other cannabinoids, including tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), though THC levels are typically very low (usually less than 0.3%) in hemp-derived products.

What Is Hemp Oil?

Hemp oil is a term that can refer to two different types of oil derived from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa):

  1. Hemp Seed Oil: This oil is extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. It contains little to no cannabinoids, such as CBD or THC, and is primarily used for its nutritional value. Hemp seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids, including omega-3 and omega-6, as well as vitamins, minerals, and protein. It is commonly used as a dietary supplement and in culinary applications, such as salad dressings and cooking oils, due to its nutty flavor and potential health benefits.
  2. Hemp Extract Oil (CBD Oil): This oil is derived from various parts of the hemp plant, including the flowers, leaves, and stems. It contains a range of cannabinoids, including cannabidiol (CBD), and may also contain trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), though THC levels are typically very low (usually less than 0.3%) in hemp-derived CBD oil. Hemp extract oil is used for its potential therapeutic properties and is found in various wellness and medicinal products, such as CBD tinctures, capsules, topicals, and more. It is commonly used for purposes like pain relief, anxiety reduction, and overall well-being.

What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil, short for cannabidiol oil, is a natural product made from extracting the compound cannabidiol (CBD) from the cannabis plant, typically from hemp (Cannabis sativa).

CBD is one of over 100 different cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, and it is known for its potential therapeutic properties.

What Is The Difference Between Hemp & CBD Extract?

The terms "hemp extract" and "CBD extract" are often used interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference between the two:

  1. Hemp Extract: This is a broad term that refers to any extract derived from the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa). Hemp extract can include a wide range of compounds found in the hemp plant, not just CBD. It may contain cannabinoids (including CBD and trace amounts of THC), terpenes, flavonoids, and other phytochemicals. In essence, hemp extract is a comprehensive extract that captures various components of the hemp plant.
  2. CBD Extract: CBD extract, on the other hand, specifically refers to an extract that is rich in cannabidiol (CBD) and is often processed to isolate or concentrate the CBD content. It typically contains a higher concentration of CBD compared to other cannabinoids or compounds found in the hemp plant. CBD extract can come in various forms, including full-spectrum (contains a range of cannabinoids and compounds), broad-spectrum (contains CBD and other compounds but no THC), or CBD isolate (pure CBD with no other cannabinoids or compounds).

Where Does CBD Come From?

CBD mainly comes from hemp, a type of cannabis plant with minimal or negligible THC levels, typically less than 0.3%.

Is Hemp The Same As Marijuana?

While both hemp and marijuana belong to the cannabis species, they are distinct varieties. Hemp typically contains minimal to no THC, unlike marijuana, which is known for its psychoactive effects.

Will CBD Get Me High?

CBD is non-intoxicating. In contrast, THC, the primary active compound in Cannabis sativa, is both psychoactive and intoxicating, causing users to feel "high." CBD, another cannabinoid found in Cannabis sativa, is technically psychoactive but does not produce intoxication. The THC content in Cannabis sativa determines whether the plant is classified as marijuana or hemp; by definition, hemp contains no more than 0.3% THC.

Does CBD Make Me Sleepy?

CBD oil aids in promoting healthy sleep cycles for a more restful night's sleep. As an alternative to our CBD oil or capsules, we offer CBD gummies with melatonin, crafted specifically to meet your sleep needs.

Can My Raw Hemp Co. Products Cause Me To Fail A Drug Test?

Much like the consumption of poppy seeds may lead to a positive drug test for opioids, the consumption of certain hemp products may lead to a positive drug test for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is inherently present in trace amounts in hemp plants. The legal limit of THC in hemp is no more than 0.3%.

Furthermore, the underlying science behind the conversion of certain cannabinoids, for example cannabidiol (CBD), when consumed, to other related cannabinoids, like THC, is not yet fully understood. Although the risk is low, individual biochemistry, the possibility of conversion of cannabinoids, and the possibility of trace, but legal, amounts of THC inherent in hemp products, we strongly suggest consulting your healthcare provider before consuming any hemp products if you are subject to drug testing.

How Should I Use The Dropper When Taking The Extract?

Hemp extract tinctures are equipped with a dropper for convenient administration. Maintaining the cleanliness of the dropper, free from any bacteria, is crucial for both your well-being and the preservation of the hemp extract.

If you opt to utilize the dropper for orally administering our hemp extracts, exercise extra caution to prevent it from touching your mouth. We highly recommend using an alcohol swab to cleanse the dropper after each use to ensure it is appropriately stored.
